Band Director: Mr. Rick Mlynarski
Students in Grades 4-8
Most new band members are introduced to the instrument of their choice in the summer after completing third grade. During the school year, band members practice together to further enhance their musical abilities. The STMS Band performs two yearly concerts: a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert, with each performed once in the evening for family and friends and once for our school students. Optional band camp is held for one week in August at Camp Lawrence. A yearly Diocesan Solo Competition is held in February at an area Catholic elementary school, and is encouraged, but not required. Instruments can be rented through an area company and is coordinated by Mr. Mlynarski. Band lesson fees are paid directly to Mr. Mlynarski (instrument fees are paid directly to the rental company). Private music lessons to gain proficiency with the instrument are not required, but students are encouraged to practice on their own. Band practice occurs twice a week during the school year and during the month of June. St. Thomas More Band marches each year in the Munster 4th of July Parade.
