Our Most Frequently Asked Questions…
What are the school hours?
Full-day Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten hours, Monday through Friday are:
8:00 a.m.* until 2:50 p.m.
Half-day Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten hours, Monday through Friday are:
8:00 a.m.* until 11:10 a.m.
* Thursdays are “late start” days. School begins at 8:40 a.m. every Thursday.
How is the school day structured?
Concentration on the specific cognitive (academic) areas and socialization will occur during the half-day sessions. Full-day students will spend the remainder of their day participating in more “hands-on” learning activities, as well as lunch and rest periods. Physical education, music, library, art and cooking activities are scheduled so that all students can participate.
Should I send my child to half-day or full-day preschool?
If a child, as determined by his/her parents, is not ready for a full day of school at this point in his/her
development, the child may be best suited for our half-day program.
How many days per week are the Preschool & Pre-K programs?
Our programs run five days per week (Preschool also offers a 3 day/week half-day schedule). By offering this program daily, the educational continuum will better prepare students for their next school level, either the Pre-K program or Kindergarten. Choose half day or full day.
My child still needs a nap. Is there a nap time?
There will be an opportunity for your child to rest after lunch each day.
If my child is in school for a full day, will he/she have lunch? What about snacks?
A scheduled lunch time will also be provided for all full-day students.
Children are able to bring a sack lunch from home or participate in our hot lunch program.
Snack time is provided for both half-day and full-day students.
What about before and after school care?
Before-school care is available each morning at the Weis Center from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. After-school care is available from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the main building. A Munster school bus provides transportation to the main building.
What about uniforms?
All preschool & pre-k students wear either navy blue pants/shorts with a white or maroon polo shirt (or the STMS plaid jumper). For your convenience, these can be purchased at any store.
The STMS plaid jumper is carried by several local uniform stores.
